Five Ways to Motivate Employees

At JobFinders, we know there are many ways to motivate employees and keep them happy in the workforce. For example, providing proper training helps them do their jobs well and makes them feel like contributors to your business. Other good motivators include providing a listening ear, or creating an open-door policy providing access to management.

There are dozens upon dozens of ways to motivate your staff. But here is a quick-hit list of five.

  1. Individuals are different and, therefore, have different motivators. To really motivate your employees, you need to take time to get to know them. According to an online Forbes article titled, “The Best Ways to Motivate Employees,” you should learn about their likes and dislikes and understand their learning style. Base your rewards at the individual level. For example, if money is a motivator, find ways to tie goals and achievements to financial incentives. If personal time is important, perhaps there are ways they can earn extra time off.

2. Another way to motivate, according to The Balance Careers article – “10 Ways to Motivate Your Employees,” is to ensure every member of your team has meaningful work. Let each employee’s distinct talents shine to make them feel valued and trusted.

3.A third way is to make sure your office has a pleasant working environment. According to an article titled, “10 Scientifically Proven Ways to Motivate Employees,” your office should be “aesthetically pleasing, well-lit, functional.” People are happier working in a cheery space.

4. According to the same article “respectful, honest and supportive” are key components leaders should possess. Management plays a key role in the motivation and retention of staff.

5. Finally, say “Thank you” to your employees and give them credit for their work. This does not cost you anything, but makes your staff feel appreciated and valued.
